Digital Radiology

Radiographs (x-rays) provide an immediate diagnostic tool for many conditions and are usually interpreted by the examining doctor. From Mount Airy Veterinary Associates, images are then electronically transmitted to radiologists at Synergy Veterinary Imaging Partners (SVIP) for review.

Our partnership with SVIP allows us to enhance the quality of care for our patients, by giving them access to board-certified radiologists that return accurate, high-quality reports efficiently. This allows Mount Airy Veterinary Associates doctors to confidently diagnose your pet faster whenever a serious problem arises, leading to treatment starting sooner.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that enables us to see soft tissue and organs under the skin. Ultrasonographers come to the clinic on an as-needed basis to perform abdominal ultrasounds and echocardiograms (ultrasounds of the heart).

Pet owners commonly ask us about the preparation and process of veterinary ultrasounds. Patients should fast before abdominal ultrasounds so the gastrointestinal tract can be adequately imaged. Our team will also shave their fur to obtain clearer images. Lastly, most animals do not need to be sedated for these procedures.

Lab Work

Blood tests, urine tests, stool tests, skin sample examinations, and several other testing procedures require full processing in a lab in order to properly diagnose your pet. Our on-site lab processes many common tests, while more complex lab work is outsourced to an outside accredited veterinary laboratory with quick turnaround times.

At Mount Airy Veterinary Associates, we have the ability to check certain blood tests on-site and frequently use our in-house lab to examine ear swabs, skin samples, skin scrapings, and fine needle aspirates. For the rest of our lab work, we rely on an outside laboratory and typically get test results back within a few business days, allowing us to create and execute a comprehensive treatment plan quickly.
